OH I understood, I hope that the NRA "Sailors" don't don"t start packing more than a flair gun, I too have a sense of humor, perhaps mine is too ironic, however I surely don't always understand the crime rates in the world's most advanced society, ( that was tongue and cheek)

CampDavid,
Crime against tourists in Chicago is minimal at best--most of which is petty larceny as in any large metropolis. Our crime problem, as is the case in most metro areas, is directly related to Black and Hispanic gangs fighting over turf and drugs. If you removed the South and West Side(largely Black and Hispanic) from Chicago crime statistics, we would be a very civil city. Most murders/shootings are gang related and this is defintely not the case in areas inhabited by Whites and Asians. These are the facts. The difference in Nassau is that not only is there Black on Black crime, but also against the tourists who are the primary source of income for their island. We are certainly one of the world's most advanced societies along with Europe, Canada, Nz and Oz but the violent crimes commited against civilized people is growing daily. Just ask the decent people of South Africa who are currently experiencing one of the greatest human holocausts against humanity perpetrated against the Dutch, English and German settlers who created a remarkable civilization from an African savannah. Their story is known only to a few since it raises the taboo subject of race and crime which is very unpopular in a politically correct world. www.reuters.com/.../us-safrica-farming-crime-idUSBRE8AS0212012112...

Re: Chicago Sailor Killed in Nassau

I have never had a problem in Nassau but know others that have. A few years ago a fellow cruiser foolish enough to sport a gold chain around his neck had it snatched in broad daylight. We only go out at day time. My wife takes the bus shopping all over Nassau and has had no problems. You take the precautions you would take in any large, strange city. Stick to the main thoroughfares. You have to remember that all the bad guys in the out islands end up being banished to Nassau. There is very little if any crime once you get out of Nassau. It's unfortunate that this person was killed in Nassau, it could just as well have been in Miami or New York City.

Re: Chicago Sailor Killed in Nassau

I'm just wondering why anyone would want to willing go to a place where they had to exercise this much caution. It just seems there are many places you can go where you can dress and walk without so much caution.

Re: Chicago Sailor Killed in Nassau

good luck with sailmakers lofts--i found the one in la cruz de huanacaxtle, in nayarit, mexico des a reputably shoddy job--makes gussets int he jib to reduce effective sail size when re affixing sacrificial--check work well, even with a reputable sailmaker.....

i knew mexico was a saer place for tourists than bahamas-- never had an urge to go there or bermuda, prolly because i grew up in new york's long island......lol

I too was in that same position. Extra sail cloth and 5200 are your friend!

Watch out! That's where the real thieves are! $60 for two people at Johnny Rockets last time I was brave enough to leave the marina and venture over there.

Re: Chicago Sailor Killed in Nassau

So some stuff I noticed weird here:
They lock Everything. Like the doors of every business has electrically locked doors. They have to buzz you in or out. Even my marine mechanic had this. Guards everywhere. Even the strip mall with the grocery store had 4 armed guards in the parking lot.

Phiilps Sail loft was awesome! Great people, great service at a great price.

We like and own guns, and are sailors. We won't bring any with us on the trip but as long we live in the free country of America we will own them and fight for the right to own them.

Also we aren't part of the NRA.

Last I checked people die while sailing, but sailing isn't outlawed...
