Bob Bohn / Truk Lagoon / C'est La Vie
Just saw this email from the Pacific Puddlejump Group, but I don't see anything in Lat38 about it. Anyone have some details?
I'm guessing that the Truk lagoon being such a huge revenue source means lots of regulation, probably graft, and no transparency. Wouldn't be hard to run afoul of a place like that.
Total guess.

In the latest issue of Lattitude 38 there is a report of the s/v C'est La
Vie being seized and the owner (Bob Bohn) put into prison and corruption in
the police.
Bob had to leave his boat and loose it in Chuuk and lost everything.
You should read the magazine at least before going.

I googled around...nothing yet.

According to a statement on Noonsite by Bob:
Quote:
Many of the FSM islanders are in tribal battles, they also hold land rights to the coral reefs around their islands including spirit resting reefs for their deceased, these areas are marked with triangles and taboo! The FSM police have little control and the laws of the land not enforced. This is an area of excessive crime and brutality, half caused by the police and officials. This Chuuk lagoon has a reputation for theft and seizing of property (including your boat!) Contact the FSM visitors bureau directly after clearing in through customs for detailed information. 691-330-4133

Planned to got that way on the next long cruise. Never heard of any issues along that way, must be more to the story.
there is a lot of valuable dive sites and WWII wreckage, perhaps some poaching was involved.

I've never been to Truk but in my dive classes it was regarded as the holy grail of scuba locations. I'm sure you'll look at this guy's misfortune in prospective.
Hopefully this up there with the "cannibal" in French Polynesia a couple of years ago: an isolated incident.

But what does that mean? Was he illegally anchored? Do you have the link? I can't seem to find anything.

Try:
Weno, Chuuk Lagoon — Noonsite
down towards the bottom. The comment by Bob was posted just last month, so it probably reflects his recent experiences.
And here are some stats on his yacht:
