Reid Stowe - 1000 Days at Sea

Mission: Captain Reid Stowe and Soanya Ahmad are preparing to depart on his 70 ft schooner to set sail for 1,000 days out of sight of land and leave dry land longer than anyone ever has. He will not refuel, he will not re-supply, and he will not pull into any harbor.

Now I am armed with all of the ammo I need the next time the Admiral calls me crazy! Also, from their website I was particular struck by this statement, "At any moment an encounter with whales, dolphins, sea turtles and sharks can transform the ordinary into the magical." I guess it completely depends on how you define "encounter"... There are a lot of "whale encounters" that start with a really loud noise, followed by the sound of water!

"Now...that's a "boat"!! I love it.

The man has a great idea for a "great" adventure.

I can only say, that I wish him and Soanya the best journey of their lives.

I smell trouble. Why? They're planning on being at sea for 1000 days yet the departure is PLANNED down to the HOUR!!! What's up with that? Could it be they're trying to appease some sponsor and their requirement for media coverage?

They've got probably 100 sponsors listed on their site, most corporate and quite a few private. Who was that guy, years ago, who was trying to keep his magazine afloat by going solo circumnavigation and just disappeared? Seems funny, just watched "Capricorn One" last weekend about the fake Mars mission.

Interesting read.I think one of the scariest things on board towards the end of the trip will be"The trash can and contents".Although it will most likely be a lot of plastic bags that food was sealed in,It will all have to be washed before storing away.I just hope they will be responsible enough to not litter the ocean too much.Mudnut.

I guess if the object is just to float around for 1000 days, you aren't going to be too much looking for a weather window, so you might as well keep the sponsors happy.

Well ya know.

1,000 days is almost 3 solid years. 365 days in a calendar year. 365 x 3 = 1,095.

So like I said. Almost a full solid 3 years straight at sea.

I wonder what kind of entertainment they have aboard their boat?

Any sailor worth his salt would not go to sea for 1,000 days,without a good women.Most of the web site is about HIM,not,HER.I would imagine that Soanya would rate in this venture,but that dosen't seam the case.The right women to go this trip would deffinatly be one with 1/2 an intrest with the" WHOLE" deal.I also take it they have set sail.Yet no coments in their subsections.At least by all standards,They/He,has experience.Will this be known as "The heart shaped circ"of all time.No Mac' burgers out their way.Mudnut.

He seems a bit full of himself to me. That is a shame the lady has not gotten equal attention.
