Where to post my question

I struck a rock with my boat. Water got into the salon, but we didn't sink, no one was hurt, and she's now on the hard. I'm considering my options going forward. One is to take the check from the insurance company and sell off what's salvageable from the boat (winches, mast, Edison pedestal, etc.) I want to know if there is a market for these parts. Where should I post my question?

Re: Where to post my question

David,

First does your insurance consider the boat "totaled"? If it is totaled, the insurance company will pay you the value of the policy and will take title of the boat and then they sell it to a salvage yard who removes and markets all the gear.

If they do not take title of the boat, then you have the option of selling the boat "as is, where is" as a fixer upper or removing all the gear for marketing and then disposing of the hull. I think that your time is worth more than the few grand that you might make from the gear and the hassle of disposing of the hull with the possible pollutants involved may be a BIG problem.

Good Luck

Re: Where to post my question

Ansley,
Thanks for your reply. The insurance adjuster has yet to make a determination. Thanks for the information about how this works. If the boat can be repaired for less than its value, I may do that and look to sell towards the end of the season or the beginning of next.
