What Is The Problem With Logging Onto This Site Recently?
Dear Gord,
During the past 3 days. I noticed there has been a major problem with this website.
#1. Either being excessively too slow logging onto site. And surfing the site.
#2. Not being able to log onto the site.
I have 2 email letters to the websites technican. I believe the person is a member of this forum. "gisle" ?
gisle@world-discover.com
And I never received any replies back. But, I hope this problem be resolved soon. And I'm speaking for everyone here. I love surfing this site. It really gives me a one-on-one insite with other sailors out there.
Well, I'm off to surfing the site.
Kevin

He is the owner/founder of this site and he may be out sailing these days.
I wrote him too, no reply.

In MY world this may have something to do with time-zones!
Seems like Scandinavia is mercifully placed in-between NZ and US. Never had any trouble logging in, or viewing the pages!
When I arrive at the office in the morning (GMT 08.00) and access this forum, only a very few members in the east are online.
All ya who experience difficulties logging on MAY be located in the most popular time zone (like the US) queing up when "all-and-sundry" are awake and log on?
Lotsa love to all you sailors!

The issues sound like they might be cookie related. I will be upgrading the software that runs our site in the near future and will then need all your help troubleshooting any issues. Together we will get all the login issues fixed.

Andy, no recent probems here. In fact, the site has been faster than usual if anything. Gisle's earlier suggestion that it was the webhost is very likely. In addition, it is clear that the site experiences most of it's slow downs when there is heavy traffic. The dates that have concerned people are dates that show in excess of 17 threads going in the 24 hour time period.

Thank you for the feedback. The more info that members can post the better we can deduce what is causing the problem.
I do plan to move the site to a server that is built just for hosting vBulletin (our forum software) and located in a world class data center.

Andy, very reasonable approach, and I appreciate the detailed explanation.
Gisle, good to see you post here. I am sure I speak for allot of us when I say I was, and am, a bit nervous about this change, but based on this site so far, I certainly trust your judgement. To hear you speak positively of the changes being made is very reassuring.
I am new to forums, and of the 4 I have tried out, this is the only one I continue to participate in. The reasons are obvious to anyone who has participated in online forums. If this forum can continue on as close as possible to business as usual, I think everyone will be happy.

Andy
This is what I get while trying to load up at 10 pm here on the West Coast of the USA. I'm running a Mac with the 2 X PowerPC G4 and OS 10.2.
I get hit with 2-3 cookies, where before it only use to be 1. If I hi-lite the page, it all comes up.

Thanks for the positive feedback Kai Nui. I know Andy will make you even more happy with CruisersForum. He will move it to a faster server and upgrade the software.
Looking back there's been quite a few "server down" incidents since our launch almost three years ago. I'm not too pleased with Infinology ...
But now with Andy behind the wheel I'm sure the future is quite bright for CruisersForum.
I'll be checking it out once in a while.

Have you tried Opera?
I've used one of the latest versions of the Opera browser and have not experienced any significant problems.
Its free from:-
http://www.opera.com/
I think that it may be worthwhile to download Java from them as well.
