This website crashes my iPad?

Oh damn. I was trying to remember what exactly it says but while typing my title I forgot!

Anyways I am having alot of trouble from this website the past couple days. I'm not sure if it is the website or my device.

I am on a second generation iPad mini. When I go to this site, and when I click on different threads and pages within this site, it will often reload the page and have a line of text that says something to the effect of "the website had to be reloaded because a problem occurred"

It does do it sometimes for other websites, but today it is doing it about 90% of the time with this one. Has anyone experienced this and what did you do to fix it?

Re: This website crashes my iPad?

I have an iPad Fourth Generation (Retina) with latest iOS and have been seeing this same problem every day recently and many times a day with this site.

Problem: (message says something like) "There has been a problem with this page and it is being reloaded."

The loading of the pages seems very slow while trying to move from page to page on the site.

I have 7mbps download speed (tested just after having this issue).

Re: This website crashes my iPad?

Yep,thats what it is doing. Have you noticed a pattern, or a specific time of day? It didn't do it now, and it is later at night, when less people are on, but that could just be a coincidence.

It was doing it really bad earlier today when I wrote this post and I went to other websites and it happened to me, but not nearly as often. Earlier today this site was doing it 90% of the time, sometimes over and over.

It wasn't just today either, it was other times too.

I get that all the time with this website and with trawlerforum.com. Three different computers. One desktop with Win7Ult and MSIE11, one laptop with Win7Pro and MSIE11, and one tablet/notebook thingy with Win10 and Edge.

Happens throughout the day, no pattern I can find. Been going on for about 6 months or so now, I think...

Re: This website crashes my iPad?

Most people assume a slow speed is caused by their service provider or their device. Often it is the server system that the hosting company is using. I am not sure if this is the problem, but hosting a site on a shared server (which is much cheaper) can be the culprit. This group is part of a larger community with various interest groups....which is a great thing. But perhaps the groups have collectively outgrown the host server capacity. See below that I copied and pasted from the parent host. this is all their various groups, not just the Cruisers and Sailing Forum.

Please do remember, for us, this is a free interest group. The owners are making some money from their advertisers, but I doubt it is a significant amount. This group is just not that large to warrant large revenues from advertisers.

Re: This website crashes my iPad?

The site should load quickly with a decent internet connection a quick google search turns up a lot of similar complaints on many sites. It seems to be a recent problem with iOS 8 - running low on memory.

Can you clear you history/cache and restart the device? People report that their issues are alleviated after doing so.

Re: This website crashes my iPad?

I've been having similar problems with other sites as well, but I think it started with me with the new Apple upgrade to 9.0. I just loaded 9.1 which came out yesterday, and believe it is better. Still to early to tell though. By the way it is happening on both my Iphone and My Ipad Mini. Too many variables to know what is exactly causing it.

Change your web browser. I'm guessing you are using safari. Try mozilla or chrome.

Froze again this morning while loading a message. I believe I am using Safari and will try another browser, but really, shouldn't Safari work too? I've also noticed this problem on some other forums I follow for example, North American Motoring.

Re: This website crashes my iPad?

A little secret for iPad users. They have a memory which needs to be erased sometimes due to overloading. So here's what to do:

Double click your home button.

All the pages you have been browsing will show on the display.

Swipe each one to the top. It will be erased.

Keep going until the home page appears. Then push the home button again.

I have to do mine about every two weeks.
Enjoy

Not a great option. Shouldn't have to fart around with multiple browsers...

Yes, Safari should work.

Whether it doesn't because of a flaw in the browser or a flaw in the site is more difficult to discover.

But Explorer and Edge have some of the same problems, so that's maybe a hint...

Try Tapatalk app. I'm pretty sure it is supported on IOS. I use it on Android phone and have no problems. It has a lot of nice features, too, that you don't get otherwise.

I've been using Safari since 2003 and it has always worked.
