someone is changing my posts

in this thread

http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...ead.php?t=5966

I posted a message, immediately reopened it and edited it. I then posted it and closed my browser. I've come back some hours later to find that someone has edited this original post. They've left no indication who did it , or why it was done. As a matter of fact, part of my original post is in this 'revised post' in "quotes" as if that person replied to it.

The original post still has my signature, still has my avatar, but isn't what I wrote at all.

I'd like to know how it is possible to do this.

Thank you

Rick in Florida

OK folks, here is the situation to date.
Firstly, we don't take someone purposly editing someone elses post lightly. It would be considered a seriouse offence.
HOWEVER!! There are two major issues in the page layout. One, we have an Edit button. OK, so that can be good but it can also lead to someone making an honest mistake. Second, the Edit button is right next to the Quote button. And this HAS happend before. The poster hits the edit button and starts hacking away at what he wants to show as a quote and without realising it, has changed someones text. and this is what I am leanign towards what may have happend.
So did anyone have something like this happen in that forum this morning. The went to quote Rick and something strange ended up happening. Or did someone go to make a post and somehow there post didn't show up or anything out of the ordinary??? Because so far, the Admi/Mod team can not explain this and much of the depths of the info we can dredge up show's nothing Malicouse so far. If this has happend, we view it as a simple mistake and no problem and lets get on with it. And if someone raises their hand and say's, umm come to think of it, something didn't work out in my post, then the team can all breat a sigh of relief and get out of the basement looking for a problem.
So ?????????

Just to clearify a little; when a MEMBER uses the edit button he can ONLY edit his OWN posts.

A Mod/Amin can edit ANYONES post(s) using the same button.

They are so close together that they can be mixed up. But we have no way of tracing edit movements unless there is an entry in the "Reason for Edit" box.

So up to date, we're calling it human error, either on the posters part or Mod/Amins part, it's unknown. Other things may have played a part to error by a Mod moving files at the same time the poster may have been editing, possible glitch. Like a bleed over in frequencies......................_/)

It was Gord's error

Rick:
My most sincere apologies for (inadvertently) overwriting your post.
Apparently, I made a keyboard error, when I was trying to quote you (not intending to edit your post).
Such negligence (on my part) is inexcusable, and will not be repeated.
Regretfully,
Gord

Gord,

It was unsettling to have this happen, yet at the same time I can see that there was no malicious intent. Moderators have been both gracious and understanding and have taken the time to explain to me how this situation is possible.

The Cruisers Forum is one of the best sailing forums on the internet, and has once again demonstrated it's integrity.

Apology accepted and case closed.
