Possible Scam.?

A girl in her 20s is seeking a crew position from FL. to USVI.

I asked where in Florida she was.

Just got 2 PMs...one from a guy named James who said he and his fiancée need to get to St. Johns because of a terminally I'll aunt. The 2nd PM was from the girl.

Both messages were written in such a way that English may not be there native language.

Anyway...just thought you should know it felt like a scam.

Although young folk today don't have any compunction using social media to solve their "instantaneous" needs.

They view the internet as a connection to 6 billion people and someone out there will help. or not...

I have a real a-hole buddy. He was working a party hitting on all these married women - I mean direct, "Do you wanna hook up?" stuff. First I told him he was an incorrigible a-hole. Then I asked him if it ever worked. He said if you don't knock on the door no one will ever answer. (and yes it works about as good as any other method, according to him...)

Oh - They also get the world. A girl seeks a ride - you are into it. Her boyfriend shows up and now it's a scam? Hmmmm....

Late leaving Roppongi taxi drivers didn't pick up Gaijin males. We'd send the girls out to flag down a cab and then we'd all jump in.

Bottom line is that the internet is a wild jungle - be cautious...

That guy has been posting as "Mister Smith" and trying to get a ride on anything that floats. With luck he's just your garden variety moron; otherwise he's running some kind of scam which might include highjacking your boat.

For a good laugh do a search to check his posts - he is on at least four threads.

A large percentage of english speakers, especially those in early adulthood, type like are still eating paste and occasionaly crapping themselves. I think it is becoming a new stereotype.

I read emails from job seekers and I wonder what school turned the brainiacs loose.

When you accept people on your boat to travel to a foreign country , they become your crew and you are responsible for their behavior.
You have no way of knowing how they will react to sailing offshore 24/7 going to windward.
At times. you will need to trust them with the lives of you and your family while you sleep.
Here's a test: go to your intercity and invite a stranger to come stay at your home or boat for a week. If this works out, then yes, go for it.

The video below discusses how typing norms are changing. As someone who was raised to speak and spell "correctly", this irks me to no end. But apparently we all have to deal with the fact that languages do indeed change with use over time. And the reasons aren't all bad.

A very young co-worker once laughed about how I and the other managers wrote text messages. He said "Y'all type like you talk in real life. Haha!" I guess I'm going to have to get the book and learn how to communicate with the whipper-snappers.

Did a quick search, Miami to St. John's is $44 one way. Don't know if you can actually buy that ticket but that's the advertised price.
