Paid membership / no ads

Is there any way I can become a paid member and have the advertising turned off?

The current add, by Kellog's I think, the one with the guy and his damn hands waving in my face every time I log on or move to a new topic... IS DRIVING ME INSANE !

I'm going to find the guy in the ad and test my new taser on him...

I'm trying not to log on so much, at least until this ad goes away...

ARRRRRRG~

That guy is also getting on my nerves. He reminds me of that guy Crazy Eddie.

When that ad started I kept a finger on the roller of the mouse for a quick scroll down. There is not a word to describe how annoying that ad is.

Disgusting.

At least only take ads from the marine industry.

Sometimes to survive you have to take the money where it comes from. I don't like it either, so I just ignore it. The site is too valuable to not succeed.

Agreed: I frequent another site and I pay $25 a year membership. I don't have to look at all the annoying ads and popups. I really hate the 'in your face' video noise ads. They are simply distracting and annoying. I will not buy or utilize services that annoy me. I wonder who does the marketing research for this annoying crap...

Please, let me pay a nominal fee for membership, ad free membership....

All the people who want it for free can filter through the advertising.

Ad Blocker/Flash Blocker

If you are using IE7, you can download IEPro 7 for free at IE7Pro - The Ultimate Add-On for Internet Explorer and block the ad's and the flash frames unless there is something you'd like to see/watch.

Cheers,

s/v HyLyte

As imagine2frolic mentioned the ads are a necessary evil to ensure Cruisers Forum's financial stability. I have taken note of the request for a paid membership level to remove ads and will consider implementing a system like that in the future.

It appears Kellogg's is out and Humana is the replacement. At least it does not flash or wave at you.

No, Kellogg's is still here as of this post.

Just one of those things you have to live with. If you've ever tried to organize something (especially a not-for-profit something), you can sympathize with the need to raise funds. This is a terrific forum as-is. Charging for it would only limit the number of members, and thus decrease the collective intelligence, in my opinion.

If all it takes is that obnoxious ad. to set you off, how can you stand to leave the the house, let alone actually take the boat out to go sailing. All I do is move the scroll wheel and get away from it in a flash. Didn't even know what the ad. was about till you told me it was Kelloggs.

If you go to a pay site, there will only be those there who pay. Think you'll find it will be a pretty quiet, sterile site as there won't be many people posting there.

I believe the intent in Andys post was to consider a premium membership (for a fee) for those who want to see no ads and that there would no change for the rest of us. There's no intent to change the current 'all are welcome to register' practice.

It's mAndy:
At the same time as you implement the premium membership, removing Ad's (under consideration); could you also remove those annoying Avatars, such as yours?
Minus 8 degrees F (+ wind chill), where I am, and I don't need a reminder of what I'm missing!
