Obnoxious “Checking if connection is secure” Message

The forum is basically not usable for me. More than 50% of the time I am trying to look at it all I am looking at is the following screen.

Why is this? When did this change?

Dunno why you are seeing this but I have never seen it, ever!
Are you using a computer or phone to access CF?

Chotu, try their app. Using the Android version of it for few years now, no advertising, works flawless.
We access the internet via a mobiles hotspot and sim card.

Btw, our costly Sim card router does not work most of the time, the mobile is much better...

Because I belong to multiple forums, I tried that Tapatalk thing just now. Just download it and ran it. Exact same result! That surprised me. I’ll try the cruisers forum standalone app.

It’s clearly cloudfare though.

I’m using my phone. I have used this phone ever since I set up the Chotu account.

I am using current versions of both chrome and Safari and they were working fine. Bit of a different geography right now. I’m actually kind of nearby to you. A bit to the north. And a bit to the west. In Southeast Asia. It should be working. Nothing else is causing any trouble. Only this forum.

And now this is what the app itself does. Doesn’t work at all.

So I guess the cruises forum app it’s just basically a re-branded and rebadged version of Tapatalk.

Re: Obnoxious “Checking if connection is secure” Message

I had something similar popping up when I was in Ecuador in April/June.
Would appear , stick around for maybe 10 seconds, and then life was back to normal.

Run an anonymous proxy
Or
Try incognito mode if using Chrome.

It’s slightly improved with chrome running incognito mode. Good idea on that work around. I’m not going to call it a fix, because the fix should be at cloudfare or the forum server and how it’s configured with cloudfare.

Looks like I’m only seeing that message about 30% of the time now. So the site is usable again.

Thanks for the insight. You must have tried a lot of things to get rid of it.

Edit: Only worked for a few minutes. Now even in incognito mode, I can’t even post this response.

It kept showing me that screen over and over and then log me out of the forum. Before this posting could be posted. I’m going to login again so I can post it.

Guess I’ll see you guys when I get back. This is completely unusable. I bet we don’t have many members in Thailand. I remember one person is here but, no wonder we don’t have many.

That could do it - this kind of thing tends to happen when you're connecting from an IP address that has been flagged as a spammer or used for other nefarious purposes.

Using a VPN should fix it. It's probably not your system.

Although I had the same problem at one point - and discovered with some research that my desktop was actually making regular, small data volume, unauthorized connections to unknown services. The problem went away after I fully deleted Firefox, and sites stopped giving me warnings of that nature.

I have been seeing this lately also. Usually when I private message someone.

Re: Obnoxious “Checking if connection is secure” Message

This message comes from Cloudflare - a security service we use to stop ddos attacks, bots hammering our servers and other common issues for online sites. It's likely that if you are logging in from some part of the world where these issues generally emanate you may see the browser check message.

You can read about cloudflare here: https://www.cloudflare.com/learning/what-is-cloudflare/
