Localized regional forums
We are a group of mariners in Hong Kong who are looking for a place to exchange information about sailing/boating/cruising in Hong Kong.
Would it be possible to make some local area forums - including Hong Kong?
What we are often interested in:
- Meetups, where to visit, local anchorage and cruising tips
- Local rules, updates, NTMs/MDNs, wrecks, work areas and such
- Getting a local grade 1 or 2 Hong Kong license
- Fixing, maintaining and updating everything on boats (could be part of general forums)
- Where to buy stuff (which is an issue in Hong Kong)
- Buy/sell/swap anything from parts, assistance, crewing to boats, moorings etc
- "Politics" - where to find berthing for your boat (very hard in Hong Kong)
And so on ...
Rather than making our own separate forums, we would be very happy to become a sub-group here. As a lot of it is specific to Hong Kong, it would be nice to have our own little corner.
Thank you for your consideration.

Very needed or you just really, really, really, really want it?
If CF won't do it maybe you guys should start up a Facebook group.

We have several Facebook and whatsapp groups. We need a proper forum, like this. Without notifications popping up, and where you can go deep into certain subjects, while ignoring others.
We have whatsapp groups for maintenance, SOS-PANPAN, getting a local license, general boating chat and more. It gets overwhelming with groups. They are only good to some extent.

It is needed
Been in Hong Kong since 2009 and got my first boat in 2010, upgraded twice already and yet, it is a challenge to get proper information/help on parts, mechanic, trainings, anything really.
I tend to do as much as possible on my boat, yet it would be helpful to have reference information for local topics
Cheers

Re: Localized regional forums
Then it sounds like you two really, really want (need) it. You should rally more of your friends together to join your bandwagon as I don't know if CF will do it for just two people.
Oh wait, you need to regional forum to help you do that..

Re: Localized regional forums
Actually it is about 25 of us already.
We are looking at different options, and given that most of us are already members of this group and truly value the input of other sailors globally, we feel that a sub section here just for local HK & Macau topics would be ideal.
If this is not an option then we will set something up independently, but it would be a shame
Cheers

Re: Localized regional forums
Hi guys,
A pleasure to be part of this forum. I as well would benefit from sharing information on the topics mentioned by DITB. Will share as much as I can.
I have a small RIB located among the small fishing vessels in Tuen Mun’s Castle Peak Bay. There are a couple of small shops there where you can buy all sorts of equipment such as Bilge pumps, fire extinguishers, ropes, rubber tubes and all kinds of (maintenance) materials at reasonable pricing as their main clientele are fishermen. Contact me if you require more details as they might be hard to find.

Re: Localized regional forums
In the private/general aviation world regional sub-forums are invaluable when planning trips and/or traveling through said regions. Most all the insight and contacts one needs all in one forum.

Bacchus... be a good chap... DPWP
I think the idea has merit... maybe broadened a bit to 'South East & East Asia' maybe... ditto for other regions .... beats doing a 'site search' on the off chance of finding the info you want.
I know a lot of stuff slips under my radar when I am 'off the grid' for a while....

Re: Localized regional forums
Hi Singularity
Totally agree
Hola Pinguino
I feel that south East Asia is too big of a region
It makes more sense by boating grounds i.e. HK & Macau / Philippines / Tailandia & Malaysia / etc.
Cheers

Re: Localized regional forums
Maybe you guys should do what Kenomac and Weavis did..
Start a thread called The Hong Kong Page...
The Mallorca thread is all things Ballearics and Kenomacs is the Sardinia thread.. easy to find and folks interested discuss local matters.. boatyards, aanchorages etc.

Re: Localized regional forums
That could be an option, although it would not be much different than using Facebook
We are thinking on different information in the subsection such as:
- anchorages (there is no actual usable pilot book for HK)
- local services
- procedures
- etc.
Cheers
