Invasive pop-up adds on my iPad.

Is anyone else experiencing invasive popups adds? About every 10th post or forum I try to pull up, a “congrats” screen pops up, with no way to get rid of it. I am forced to close the window and reopen it from the previous menu. It is very annoying and forcing me not to want to post here.

It is only on the forum. I will clear cookies and browser history but that is also a pain.

Re: Invasive pop-up adds on my iPad.

I believe the usual way that works is thru javascript embedded in ads.. So basically someone manages to serve you an ad with some annoying piece of code that pops up a modal you can't close etc. Pretty annoying.

Other than wiping out cookies until the next time it happens...have you tried an ad blocker?

Switch to using Firefox as your browser then the adds will go away. I had the same problem with Safari.

I am using my work iPad, can’t install blockers or firefox on it. Guess i will just have to deal with it until the offending ad is found.

It is Apple, never forget they own and control that device. I don't say this out of fear mongering or anything like that. It is just the way it is.

I have had luck with deleting history, closing Safari, then restarting the device. It was happening last year also. I had high expectations the first time I saw I won a large gift certificate from Amazon

There's a new browser called Brave. Excellent choice.

Run an ad blocking utility such as adblocker on your computer. There are several and they work well.

Re: Invasive pop-up adds on my iPad.

There are many ways to skin that cat. I am not familiar with iOS but know that not having root can limit your options. Using a privacy-oriented browser is a great place to start, although something similar can be accomplished with extensions. I am just now re-installing my OS and thus starting over with extensions. I use the Vivaldi browser with No-Script and uBlock to keep the garbage under control, along with AutoPlayStopper to keep videos from downloading and playing when the page is first loaded. Another approach is to use a DNS server that filters out ad servers - if you can provide your own DNS addresses. Increasingly Google is blocking ad-blockers in Android but if the DNS server doesn't resolve the ad servers' URLs then we win - for now. The war continues...

That certainly shouldn't happen. When you say iPad do you mean iPad or some other tablet?

It's likely you have picked up a tracking cookie somewhere. You should not be seeing popups here from random advertisers.

Please try emptying your cache and cleaning out cookies and doing a restart.
