Re: How to: Add images to a Post.

Hello, jongleur,

First, go to CP.

Next, click on Edit Details.

Then scroll down the page to the bottom, Biography.

From there, it works just like the reply box.

Good luck with it.

Ann

Re: How to: Add images to a Post.

Janet-
"You should be able to upload images immediately after registering (no minimum post count) via the advanced reply editor (go advanced). Links however to images hosted elsewhere have a 10 post minimum required as a spam abatement restriction."
So in theory I can embed images in a post. But when I click on the advanced options, I get the little image icon, click on it, and get nothing. No action, no response.
If I try to manually use <img> code, the preview just shows it as text.
And I've got the editor set to use advanced html (whatever it was called) for sure.

Nice that there's a YouTube link, but some of us have Javascript disabled for security purposes. Something that you'll find more commonly as folks get burnt by scripts. Some simple and more extensive text guidance would be useful.

Re: How to: Add images to a Post.

OK, as others have said, the video you posted is 100% useless. At best it is invisible even on a large screen as it will not let one open it in YouTube. At worst, the first example of it, it is blocked. Pure genius.

Below this message there is a box which says "Add Video" with a browse button. I have browsed for a random JPG file as a photo and added that. I will see that happens.

If it works then the text should be amended to Photo/Video

Re: How to: Add images to a Post.

Well, despite showing JPG to add that was a failure.

I have now used Advanced and then gone to Manage Attachments. After a while a new window opened with a browse followed by an upload button. I then closed the separate browse window using the Close at the top of it. I then clicked to send.

I will try that.

The file that I have now tried to upload is a bit of chart. Note that one can only upload restricted file types.

Re: How to: Add images to a Post.

Well, well weavis, even if I join the band of those who find your video nearly impenetrable, I now at least know why your tagline refers to 90% of conflicts being due to tone of voice. Your reference to "whining" (not that you spelt it that way) would appear to be straight tone of voice!

As others have suggested, written instructions are likely to be far more helpful than, an albeit more trendy, video.

Not that I have managed to make the Insert image button other than insert a link

I attach a PDF with instructions. You, weavis might want to give a steer as to how to use the Insert image button with any success using a Windows 10 computer. One, BTW, with Java.

All my computers in the office are windows 10 with JAVA

Your link is https and also not an image, but a collection of images from one drive. Select them singularly and insert as i demonstrated on the new video..
and perhaps you might have some success.

Re: How to: Add images to a Post.

Photobucket is a fee for service site. Can I transfer images from my own files. I have no need for Photobucket except for this forum. Also there is no sound on this video and it is very hard to identify the steps taken--very fast transition from one step to the next. Should redo the video.
Again can I transfer files from my own photo file?

Re: How to: Add images to a Post.

Hello, potbellypirate,

My husband, Jim, does, from our photo files. Windows 8, and no cloud storage. He kept trying to make it work, and somehow figured it out.

If it is really opaque to you, use the Contact Us button at the bottom of the page. When you click on it, a writing box shows up, and the clearer you can describe the problem the easier it will be for the site staff to help you. When you click on the Send Message at the bottom, it will go into a queue, and someone will help you.

Ann

Re: How to: Add images to a Post.

I use a Macbook....
Two ways I do it.

From 'Photos' I select the photo I want.... go to 'Export'.... Then I export to a folder on the desk top.
When posting I simply go to 'advanced' and select the photo from that folder.... job done.

If I want , lets say , a bit of a chart from Opencpn.... I just use 'Preview'... take a screen shot of the bit I want... then I save it as a jpeg to the same folder..

Are you trying to post pictures of the boat?

If so, you can upload them to a free hosting site like imgur (or any one of dozens of others) and that site will give you a link to post here. The one you want will say "BB Code". Just copy and paste that link in your post and the picture will be inserted.
