Forum question

Sorry I could not find a place to ask for questions pertaining to the forum itself.

Anyway, is there a way to change the date format? I much prefer to have the month/date/year as opposed to the default. I am unable to find the option to change it.


Dang! After I posted I looked in the dropdown at the bottom of the page and found the "Forum Tech Support & Site Help" forum. I will start a new thread in the correct place, after searching of course.

As you didn't make it to the tech support forum I guess you found the answer. But in case not - the answer is no .

The question crops up now and again - it's a Forum Software limitation thing.

Thank You David. That is where I found my answer. Not that it matters, but I don't agree with the logic that the date should be the same for all users based on the posting time. As was pointed out, each user has the option to set time zone. And as a matter of fact I have the date format option in several other forums that I follow. They also have a world wide membership and it seems to work just fine. But if it is true that it is a software issue with the forum designer, well as was also mentioned the whole issue is a moot point. Can't change it if the change is not programed in.

But what it boils down to is that I am a new guy here and so far I like it. So I'll learn to play as the forum is designed, and be happy I am able to get advice from the knowledge of the forum membership.

If I have to stop and actually think a bit about the date well that "should" be do-able, most days.

If you pop in regularly then all the posts are "dated" Today or Yesterday - and those are pretty universal and easily understood terms .

I have spent 30 years as a firefighter working 24 hour shifts that rotate. So I often don't know what day it is, unless I look at the calendar. That look is usually only to see if I have to go back to work the next day. So the date issue is really not that important I just had to ask.

Two years until retirement, then I hope to join the cruisers that don't know and don't care what day it is.

I spent some time in Europe and there it is day/month/year. So when I go on to this site I just pretend I'm back in Europe.

Or do you prefer hour/minute/second?

Is zero degrees longitude at Greenwich? Or somewhere else?

When heading into port, is the green on the right, as per the international system? Or do you use the opposite?

It is an archaic U. S. American thing. We just had to be different!

Does any other country use Daylight Savings Time? Another stupid American thing.

We've got GMT and BST (British Summer Time - clocks spring forward 1 hour and fall back 1 hour).

Something to do with not keeping the haggis eaters in the dark........

GMT is 'Greek Maybe Time' here in the Eastern Med .

I just checked the wikipedia about Daylight Savings Time. I guess the idea is pretty prevalent throughout the much of the world. It started during WWI. I guess it is more than just a stupid U. S. American thing so I apologize to the rest of my U. S. A. sailors for being so rough on my country. I guess it is a stupid idea that's spread to many of the First World Countries.
