Definition of "street sign"
Can we get a definition from Cloudflare of what they mean by the term "street sign"? I just went thru an unsuccessful 10+ times cycle, trying to log on.
Or maybe this is their subtle way of telling us to go somewhere else?

Re: Definition of "street sign"
Can you clarify? Are you referring to a post or thread on the forum? Who or what is cloudflare? I don't see a member with that name. Context of the use of "street sign".

Re: Definition of "street sign"
Cloudflare is that annoying palace guard many of us must pass in order to browse Cruisers Forum. Readers permanently logged in are not shown this page, and could be unaware that it exists. Those of us with crappy connections and changing IPs get to see it a lot.
The challenge is to identify a set of pictures that have street signs, or rivers, or trees in them and check a tiny box -- repeatedly -- until Cloudflare allows you in.
This may be a feature for the website management because it reduces spammers and robots, but it's a PITA for those of us who simply want to check-in to see what's up.
My quest is to determine exactly what Cloudflare considers a street sign, so I don't have to play their game, over and over again.

Re: Definition of "street sign"
Those annoying things are reCAPTCHA's. Cloudflare uses them, but they are a Google product: https://www.google.com/recaptcha/intro/index.html
In other words: Cloudflare doesn't have any definition for any pic or puzzle you may have to solve, they're all created by Google's reCAPTCHA service. You can't change the settings or only use some challenges and not others, when you use them ...

Re: Definition of "street sign"
I click on the street signs, it brings up another about trees, i click on the trees, it brings up another about lakes...
Obviously there's something about identifying these things that I don't understand.
Just this morning, they came up with a new "game" involving timed panels that you must wait for to display. I'll bet there's no way for the Admins to discover how many viewers are walking away from this nonsense, other than maybe unexplained low stats at the end of the month.

Funny you should mention IE and Big Brother in the same post. I'm sure there's some sort of "connection" there. Wink, wink.

What do you mean by permanently logged in? I am land based in the PNW and put my username / password in whenever I log into CF and log out when I am done.

Next time click on "remember me". Don't log out. Just close the tab or browser.
I've logged in maybe a half dozen times since '07.

Sorry - I wasn't very clear. I've done both; logged in and out as well as checking the 'Remember me' box if I'm staying on all day and they both seem to work fine for me. I do not get any of the annoying reCAPTCHA pop-ups that the OP is talking about and there are no other 'hoops' I have to jump through to get to the CF site

Re: Definition of "street sign"
Good for you guys. You have one browser, and a stable IP number. Many cruisers do not.
That was my point. The very group of people this site serves are those who take the biggest hit. And there will be no feedback from the ones who have been discouraged.

Re: Definition of "street sign"
In my experience, they don't want to make any of those pick-the-pictures captchas very easy. Apparently, the bots are getting very good at solving them. So, every set of pics will have a pretty difficult special pic (with a very small sign, for instance).
So, some of the time, you'll miss.
CloudFlare has been hit with an enormous amount of spam and DDOS (denial of service) attack traffic. That's why they are implementing these captchas. This past year, Cloudflare handled 6.7 trillion instances of spam and other assorted flotsam. Especially, if they think you are accessing via anonymity software such as Tor (or some VPNs maybe) - they will flag you for captcha.
