Exclamation Chinese email

I am curious if anyone else received an email like this? I cannot imagine why they would send this to me, so perhaps they are blanket sending it to everyone hoping someone will click on the links they provided and infect themselves with a virus.

Do not click on any suspicious links in emails.

Dear Manager,

(Please forward this to your CEO, because this is urgent. Thanks)
This is Eric Liu, Senior Manager of a Network Service Company which is the domain name registration center in Shanghai, China. On December 9, 2019, we received an application from Limin Holdings Ltd requested “cruisersforum” as their internet keyword and China (CN) domain names( cruisersforum.cn/ cruisersforum.com.cn/ cruisersforum.net.cn/ cruisersforum.org.cn). But after checking it, we find this name conflict with your company name or trademark. In order to deal with this matter better, it’s necessary to send email to you and confirm whether your company have connection with this Chinese company or not?

Best Regards

Eric Liu
Senior Manager

China Registrar Headquarters

Re: Chinese email

This is regular scam, they try to sell you domain name registrations in china. They push and try to scare you that someone else may register your domain in china.

Re: Chinese email

As CatNewBee says, it's a regular scam. I see them all the time since I am the tech contact for a lot of domains. No malicious payload, they are trying to sell China domain registrations to you.

But how they associated you with CF is a puzzle.

Yes that is the big puzzle, why pull my email out of all of this, hence the curiosity if anyone else saw the same email.

Re: Chinese email

i don't see any "foreign" scripts on the CF pages so other two potential areas are your email account has been compromised, or some malware on your system scraping sites you visit.

or CF has been hacked and China has all our details (which they probably had anyway).

Re: Chinese email

Well, now that you're "manager" of CF, you can start to make some changes around here!

We all bow down humbly before you.

Re: Chinese email

My email could certainly be on many Chinese lists these days, it has been around a long time.

I would think, if the Chinese had invaded CF and knew everyone's email address, then lots of people here would be getting this same email, but that doesn't seem to be the case does it, or at least nobody is fessing up to it, so most likely just an association between my email and this site somehow, but I am a relative newbie here, so it is confusing.

Well, back to work..
