Wink Cannot read same message twice

When I go to the discussion board MULTIHULLS and click on a thread I see the hierarcherital list of threads but only the first message.

If I go down the list in the hierarcherital list of threads to one I have clicked on previously all I get is the very first message. I can no longer go to a message that I have previously read.

Can you help me.

Jerry,
I have had similar problems with another board.. While logged onto the first message try hitting "refresh". This usually works for me.

If its one you have posted to, go under search and put your screen name.

Jerry - It could be that you are reading the forums in "threaded" mode.

This mode shows a "tree" of thread at the top and you will see one post at a time and have to click through each posting.

This is a good mode when people are replying to new and old posts. For this forum most of our members usually reply to the last post. If they do respond to a previous post they usually quote so it keeps things in context.

While you are "reading" a thread select "display mode" and try "linear mode" - This is the mode I use for reading the forums.

Let me know if that's not helping.

Default mode

You can also set the default mode by updating your profile and selecting options.

I stuck 3 pictures that might help.

Thank you to all 3 of you. I tried all your ideas and still no go.

One thing I did find is that I cannot modify my EDIT OPTIONS page. It just will not change and a couple of times it said that I was NOT logged on but I was. It says THREADED on my Edit Options page but when I'm in a thread it says it's LINEAR. Actually most threads display LINEAR-NEWEST FIRST but, for example, under "Multihull Sailboats" the thread "Lagoon 440 Weight, Height, Fly Bridge" displays THREADED and will not display my own posts even to me.

Could it be when I signed up for an account that it was NOT activated?? I ask this because I know how to use this forum's software because the LEXUS forum uses the same software and they gave me an activation number to activate my account/membership. Maybe this is my problem?

You try it. My user name is JerryF and my password is xxxxxxxxx. I can always change the password later.

OTOH, I could have a forum administrator completely close and deactivate my account so I could re-register as a new user.

I really do want to stay with this forum!

Thanks again,
JerryF

Jerry - I changed your account setting for you. You can view threads in a linear way now with the newest posts being at the top of the page. Holler if you need some more (forums-type) help.

Janet - Any idea why Jerry couldn't change his profile settings?

Not really? My guess is that the process wasn't fully completed. After you change your account settings, you need to scroll all the way down the page and hit 'save changes'. It's easy to overlook this last bit....

Try this:

Hit the F5 button on your keyboard to force the browser to refresh and not load any pages from cache. Then login and make sure to check the remember me button (it sounds like you are not staying logged in). Then try again.

Thanks, it seems that you "Gals & Guys" got it going for me. Here are a couple of comments that may help you.

Janet...You did get it to go to Linear - Newest First but when I checked my USER OPTIONS they still said Threaded.

Andy...I immediately used your idea to press F5 to reload and that made my USER OPTIONS go to Linear - Newest First. It may be a cookie kept the old options.

Janet...you said you updated my USER OPTIONS yesterday. I was on yesterday and also this morning and still had the problem. FYI, this may mean that when administrators fix something it takes the system overnight to update it. No problem here, just thought you might like to know there seems to be a lag time. OTOH, maybe a cookie kept the old options in place.

In the final analysis I logged out and noticed that the Cruiser's software said all cookies removed. This made me go see if they really did remove all cookies and I found that they didn't. Therefore I used "CCleaner" to remove ALL Cruiser's cookies. I logged in again and and checked remember me and so far all is okay.

The linear mode works for all threads that I have not previously visited while the previously visited threads show as either threaded or hybrid but they seem to be working okay and just this suits me fine!

Thanks again folks,

One more comment that may help you administrators. I tried to change my USER OPTIONS and they would NOT change even after pressing the save button at the bottom of the page.

I then logged out and in and tried again to change them but this time I pressed F5 and they DID change.

Just thought I'd pass this on.

Jerry - It sounds like your browser is not updating properly - i.e. it is maintaining all web pages in cache.

Ex-Calif,

I feel that you are correct. I'll look around and see if I can find out how to correct that. Do you know how?

Ex-Calif,

Here's what I tried. While in IE7 I went to TOOLS/INTERNET OPTIONS and clicked on the ADVANCED TAB. I then went down the list of choices to SECURITY. There I checked, "Empty Temp Int Files Folder When Browser is Closed".

I also cleared the cruiser forum cookie and re-logged in to get a new "clean" one. Then I used CCLEANER to protect my new forum Cruiser Forum cookie because every time I boot my PC CCleaner erases all cookies except those that are protected.

So for it seems to work but time will tell what else I may be messing up.

BTW, CCLEANER is a free package that I only use it to erase cookies every time I boot and to protect those cookies I do not want to erase.

Any better ideas are graciously accepted.
