Boat search

Thought I would make a suggestion that had been mentioned a few years back. That is a boat list much like our Members list under the Community tag in the toolbar above.
I have noticed over the years, new members looking to ask questions about a particular vessel. Right now it's kind of a shot in the dark..."Hey...anyone got a Rancid 42". It would make it easier to start threads for a particular type of boat and receive useful information from like owners.

Re: Boat search

So are you thinking a separate thread for each boat discussed, for example, one titled Halbery Rassey 35, one titled Pearson 422, etc?

Purpose to establish a database of the specs: LOA, draft, beam, rig and/or comments/opinions on the quality and characteristics?

If any or all of the above I think it would be a great resource. Probably not for me since I don't anticipate buying another boat unless I win the lottery.

Re: Boat search

This forum software supports searching only the title's of posts. And only in a specific forum.

So an easy way to do this, without changing anything in the software, is to put the name of the boat in the title.

The next level would be to create a specific 'Boat review' sub-forum, so that searches could be further restricted.

And the next level is to do our best to standardize the way the boat names are put in the title, maybe to include model year variations in one thread.

I like this idea. Anything to inform consumers and make buying and selling a boat will make my world better. I have a problem -- I love sailing far, which requires a boat. But boats are completely ridiculous, financially. I want Zillow for Boats, and more information in more people hands about boats is a step in the direction of a more transparent market for them.

I'm not sure we're thinking the same thing...If you go under "community" on the upper green bar and click on it, you'll see member list. What if there was a members boat list, which we could (if we chose) to list our make, size and year of vessel. It would be in alphabetical order like the member names. a new person interested in an on hands opinion could message the member and talk about the pros and cons of said vessel.
