Bayliner 2859

I'm looking at a Bayliner 28 ft (2859hardtop) Seems like the perfect size for me going solo or with a friend----since there are 2 separate bunks.
I've heard Bayliner is a low budget entry level boat, but are they sea worthy?

Re: Bayliner 2859

There are two classes of Bayliner. The smaller ones did indeed have a reputation for being price-point boats. Yes, seaworthy, but most of the hardware and systems have been selected and fitted in a way that makes the boats more affordable. That's not necessarily a reason to shy away from them, if they suit you.

The larger boats suffer somewhat from that reputation, but they're more tank-like (!) in the way they're built... and most of the systems (AC, toilets, electrical stuff, etc.) is pretty much the same as what every other production builder uses.

The change-over point is somewhere around 35' I think, but I'm not sure. And there might be some overlap in lengths if the changeover is below that.

If the one you're looking at suits you, it could be a viable candidate. You could also compare to similar sizes/designs from Grady-White, Boston Whaler, Ranger, ProLine, and a boatload of other brands in the same basic size range.
