Goldy-lux -- a CSY44 cutter -- was in the slip across from me at Nanny Cay in Tortola for several years. She is, as the French say, a "lady of a certain age" :-) She was under the care of Johnny Hassan at Johnny's Maritime.

I don't know her present owner, Wally Boelkins. Believe he's a mechanical engineer from Michigan, who ran a small company there for a number of years.

Far as I know, this is a one-boat company.

Given that the owner is an engineer, and that the CSY44 is virtually bulletproof (it was designed for the charter business in the islands), it might well be OK.

However, there are many charter companies in the BVI and USVI. Many hundreds of boats. I can't believe nothing else is available if you really look.

Good luck,

Bill

BILL, Thank you for the ur info.
yes I know that are many and charter w/many my self but given the time of delay on my part many of the companies are all sold out for the dates I need.
Goldy-lux the price is very attractive. I can over look the age but not the uncleaniess (wife).
The dates are in very high season (airlines+boat+food+rum=small fortune) only for 8-10 days.
I like to know if anyone ever in onboard.
ps I know some people on Nany Cay & may have to call them.
thank you.

BVI Charter

I have a boat with The Moorings in Tortola. Have you tried www.sailonline.com. There are a number of charter boat owners that sell their owners time from various charter companies as wellas some that do private bareboat charters of their own boats.

I've been on CSY 44's and own a CSY 33. They can be nice boats when cared for well. They have large tankage and large fridge / freezer. The cockpit is huge. They don't point the best but in 30 knots of wind on a reach in the trade winds (a common thing) it's a smooth boat ride.

Just don't hit anything of value. It's all solid fiberglass and there isn't much it won't bust in two with barely a scratch.

NO way I plan to hit anything, but I always charted w/d big guys and this is a great deal. My wife is worry about what 2 find on the inside.
I' have placed two phone calls to some friends in Nanny Cay and I hope can put it together for some fun sailing.

best regards

Nelson,

Check out the posts on SailNet. There's a guy who's looking for a couple to share a boat he's chartered in high season, and had a couple drop out.

Don't know if the Jan 6-13 dates work for you, but have a look:
