Many more than two weeks of frustration and annoyance.

Requires one to exit the CruisersForum and relog in to view the recent topics and even then it will be for a limited time as soon the banner will expand in length and cover over the topic content and links.

I have received emails from the IT persons of the CruisersForum asking what browser I and operating system I use, yet no resolution. One reply proposed that I use a different browser. The two browsers that I customarily use are Edge and Chrome which are about as mainstream as one can obtain.

CF please just turn the damned expanding overlay advertising banner off, until one finds a solution.

ARGHHHHHH!!!!!!

FWIW, it has been OK for me apart from a day or so about a week back.
Using Safari on macOS Catalina
No ad blocking software.

Would an Account Upgrade, to “CF Supporting Member” [$15.01/year] solve this problem?
Supporting Members don’t see ads.

You wish, my whole screen is filled with ads. I won’t give another cent before this is fixed.

Edit: a quick count: 11 advertisements on this page alone and that is without the social knowledge banners/buttons etc.

It’s a mystery!
Much like why men like trophy wives.
Their ears stick out, and they have they've got the previous winners names tattooed down their backs.
Or, why WWII kamikaze pilots wore helmets.

I only see ads, on the right border, when I log in.
Once I got to ‘New Posts’, or ‘Today’s Posts’ [content goes to full screen], I’ve never seen another ad, in decades of participation.

FWIW: I use basic ‘Firefox’ browser, no AdBlocker.

iPad, plain standard, so many flashing ads to the right that I can hardly read your post…

Re: Advertising banner covering the recent thread topics

Ads like these are not controlled by CF, or any specific website. They are mostly delivered via various services -- mostly Google. So the ads you see are personalized by Google to best sell you crap... er, I mean best serve your needs . So if you're seeing certain types of ads, it's Google et al. that believes you want to see this junk.

Adblock stops all this nonsense. But on top of blocking all unwanted ads, you can also cancel your Google account, AND block all the background snoopers and trackers that are constantly monitoring and following you. For example, on the thread page my tools (Ghostery, Adblock, Adblocker) are blocking five unwanted ads, and seven invisible trackers/snoopers.

I hesitate to say this, but the blocking advertising banners went away last week. I am using a pretty recent version of Firefox on Windows. Now that I have said this, I notice there is another fix available. Hopefully, that does not cause the blocking banners to reappear.

Dan

Re: Advertising banner covering the recent thread topics

The problem is probably related to your computer's browsing history, so maybe who else uses your computer has given Google ideas of what ads to show you. Still, Adblock plus keeps me from seeing your ads. My computer displays none.

Certainly looks as though you have not edited your options in

Specifically "turn off right column"!

I don't see any ads with these settings:

Turning off the right column also removes the Recent Discussion list so one looses that functionality.
