We are new to the forum. We have "Blew Bayou Too" at the Galveston Yacht Basin. We are looking to take the boat on a cruise somewhere we can make in a couple of days, spend a few there and have time to get back. We are taking the kids, so it needs to be somewhere that has some fun to do when we get there.
We are used to cruising in Tampa area, where there are a ton of hotel/marina/resorts to enjoy.

Any ideas?

......And before all of you "Clear Lake" people start bragging on the things to do there.......we live in League City.

I would suggest that you get your hands on a copy of the Texas Cruising Guide from Campbells. It runs the entire coast.

The trip to Port Aransas is generally a 24 hour trip offshore - and then a leisurely trip back up the ICW, or vice-versa. There are places every few hours to spend the night.

A few "don't miss" places:

Army Hole, Matagorda Island State Park
Mud Island, behind Matagorda Island, across from Rockport - just don't anchor with a norther threatening.

If you have the time once you get in the Corpus Christi area, downtown CC is fun for a night or 2, with lots to do within walking distance or trolley distance.

Port A is fun, and eclectic. Look us up. You can generally walk or get a quick ride to shopping and restaurants.

Ingleside Cove is probably the nicest, safest anchorage on the Texas Coast. It's weird, because there's a rig builder on one end of the cove.

Might try a run to Louisiana, maybe to the Tobasco Plant near New Iberia, it's on the ICW good places to tie up and tour the plant and picnic, and go thru the gift shop which is worth the trip in itself!! lots to see and do along the way and almost all inside if ya want ! just a thought Bob and Connie

You're going to find it bare pickings after Florida... I like Bill's suggestion, Matagorda and points South are beautiful, and in many places unspoilt, just watch your water depth if you have a deep keel.

Doesn't the Galveston Bay Cruising Association have trips every month or so? Some of them are local quickies, but I think others go further.

Thank you all for your ideas. I will bring all of these ideas to the wife and kids and get some opinions. I will also look for the Texas Cruising book you mentioned. We are looking on taking this trip in mid-March. Thank you, Bill, for the invite. If we head that way, we will definitely look you up!

You should also check out Harborwalk Marina (adult pool, kid pool, and hot tub).

We loved Surfside Marina on the ICW, they will shuttle you to restaurants and the beach. Great place to see dolphins at sunset and dawn. Clean, modern restrooms and a convenient in the marina, 2-3 guys were there to help us into the slip.

Join TMCA, Texas Mariners Cruising Association. They have a new members orientation that will help you with places to go. Close by you have Offats Bayou in Galveston and Double Bayou in Trinity Bay. But only go to DB after a frontal passage in the winter. Otherwise the mosquitos will devour you.
