Isla Mujeres, Mexico - New Crew List Regulations

I just came across this in another forum and thought I would pass it alongs.

Hi Claiborne -

We wanted to pass on some information to cruisers sailing from Florida (or any other U.S. location) to Isla Mujeres, Mexico.

The Port Captain in Isla Mujeres is now requiring boats coming from the U.S. to have a notarized crew list - in other words, a crew list that is drawn up and notarized in the U.S. prior to departure, similar to an exit zarpe from other countries. This is a relatively new requirement; we're not sure when it went into effect. Four boats arrived in Isla Mujeres from Key West over this past weekend, and none of us had a notarized crew list because we were not aware of this requirement. The Port Captain said he would let it go this time, but the next time we would be fined.

Thanks for your assistance in disseminating this information. We are trying to let folks know via the Cruiseheimers Net and other avenues.

The Port Captain in Isla is always looking for ways to "fine" cruisers which are not necessarily according to Mexican law. We have had son interesting dealings with him. Read our post at Voyages of Sea Trek: Clearing Into Mexico and get some info on contacts to find out the correct information for clearance. There are two names in the post to contact to find out if requirements have indeed changed and to report the Captain if he is up to his usual antics.
