Tank moniter

1982 boat with a holding tank and no easy way to tell when it's getting full other than the toilet handle won't pump anymore.
I hear there's a "tank moniter" with an electronic display for 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 and Full. Anyone have any experience on purchasing and installing such a device?

My tank got so full there was a small eruption when i removed the "suckin' out cover".

Your vent should never allow that, it should have flowed out of the event first, so likely you have too small a vent, most boats, OK all boats unless modified that I have seen use the 5/8" fuel tank vent as a holding vent too, and that clogs easily and is too small.
However back to the holding tank gauge, I just installed a Solo holding tank gauge and it works as advertised, to include a red led light that comes on when your approaching full.
You can buy them at many shops, but I believe this is the actual manufacturer

There's a brand called TankWatch that displays like that. Maybe others, too.

There are also other brands that use a sweep gauge to display; WEMA (KUS) comes to mind.

Many of those use sensors, installed into the holding tank, that measure resistance levels (Ohms) -- and send that info to the gauge for display -- as a float moves up and down a rod... as tank levels change.

Some other systems use external sensors; I dunno much about how those work...

Re: Tank moniter

I have a LevelGuard SensaTank system on the water and holding tanks, and so far it's working fine.

Mind you, I just installed it last Friday.
