Re: Can you indentify this trimaran

Fixed keels on both outer hulls? Never seen that before with the exception of small winglets on some of Arthur Piver's designs.
I don't have any idea what design that is. Is that a double ended main hull? If it is I haven't seen that either.
Probably make a better motorboat than sail boat, I think those keels would hinder it's tacking ability.

Re: Can you indentify this trimaran

Would it make a decent loop/firework cruiser powerboat? The old man never got to the rigging before he passed. Was told it floated for 20 years during the project. Not a soft spot to be found. Very impressed with the rigidity. Water/scum line is very consistent. They want to cut it up. Just having a hard time letting them for all the work that has gone into it. Just looking for someone to tell me its a horrible idea to do anything with it.

Thanks,
Mike

Re: Can you indentify this trimaran

IMHO - To make it ship-shape, the amount of labor and materials you would need to put into it will far exceed the market value of the boat when you're done.

Re: Can you indentify this trimaran

If it's cheap , really cheap ,and not structurally compromised ,you have a place to put it near your house for free , you have free time to do the required labour and money to spent on materials, you have the required tools .
You are ready to spent 10.000 on electronics 15000 for engine 20.000 for the rigging and maybe more for the interior go for it .
Oh and I forgot if you ready to accept the super high marina or mooring g fees because is a trimaran

All depends on cost and ho2 much of a boatbuilder you are. Also, where will you moor it?

As much as I would hate to see a mans labor of love go. I believe allocating her to the chain saw may be the smartest idea.

The amounts above will be spent quicly to a new 40ft sailboat already equipped with all basic instruments sails and ready to sail. A project like this trimaran will be clearly more expensive even if you can work by your self with engine and electrical installations. If the project would sail one day you had spent huge sum of money for a boat with unknown charateristics and unknown, but low market value. I would never go for this project.

Re: Can you indentify this trimaran

There is a 1982 Horstman 45 currently on ebay $88,900 buy it now.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/123504608948?ul_noapp=true
It has the mini keels on the amas. Varying opinions on the Horstman designs. Some call them condomarans but I remember reading about a couple cruising in one (don't recall their names, Corinne Kanter maybe? Met them at the Multihull symposium. Either Newport or Annapolis). They seemed to really like it.

Re: Can you indentify this trimaran

The engine and fuel tank are in. Electrical all done. Plumbing done. Bow thruster wired and good to go. All appliances are there. Everything is basically new but old if that makes sense. Rigging and the cosmetics would be the things most obvious. And then the ever present unforseen issues. I really want a 40+ft alloy cat. Not enough time to scratch build currently. I would marina condo it if I could find a slip and just have a little summer hangout/not rig it. Lots of deck footage. Thanks for all of the realistic advice

I would say Horstman. Nigel Irens also designed one that looked a bit like this ages ago--but my guess would be a Horstman.

Re: Can you indentify this trimaran

The big Piver I have owned had these keels for better tracking and upright beaching. In fact all big tris I have seen have them in the design or have added them later. Usually they added a main long keel of about 300 mm average depth, and the ama keels a little longer.

I looked at the Laueren Williams design for sale and it looked very similar except for the stern--but often owners adapt these plans to their own personal fetish.
