SeaClipper Trimarans

Anybody out there who owns, sails and/or appreciates the SeaClipper series of trimarans designed by John Marples about in the 1980's? There was a 34 ft, 38 ft and 43 ft - I think - and John regarded them as an economy cruiser, but were easily capable of world cruising. These trimarans are not nearly as common as the SeaRunner series but to me have more elegant, flowing sheer-line that was more similar to mono-hulls of the time. They were a more modern design that incorporates V-hulled floats that drew only about 6", were canted inboard and were prominently positioned further forward.

They were usually made of plywood with an epoxy and glass sheath over them. Mine is a 38 that the previous owner launched in 2001, has a small aft cabin, and sails very well, being well-balanced, has a good turn of speed and a very nice ride. I think the style is one of the most beautiful in multi-hulls and was one of the last home-built designs available before the explosion of factory made cats (especially) and tris. I think the Constant Camber era came just after the SeaClipper series.

Looking forward to hearing from anyone interested.

Thanks, RR.
