Just saw this in my news feed. Search now suspended, they believe the 3rd person is likely perished.

Leaves it all up to the imagination, for now anyways. Condolences to friends and family.

More info here, it looks like it was a three men overboard situation.

Marine Traffic lists another last seen a week ago in the general area:

https://www.marinetraffic.com/en/pho...p_name:IN_TUNE

Either way very sad news.

Middle of the night. I'll bet that the survivors will be tethered in, next time they're on deck at night. .I will be. Safety first BTW Must have been someone still on the boat to call for help , unless one of them had an Inreach or eperb of some kind. This will be an interesting story. Thank god for the 2 survivors.

Re: Sailing Vessel In Tune, 2 rescued 1 missing.

The boat was recently for sale. These could have been new boaters as well.

According to the Coast Guard release the rescue was the result of a Mayday call on VHF 16 that was picked up by a nearby merchant vessel. No mention (yet) of EPIRB or anything similar. If that's the case, pretty lucky to have VHF picked up by someone that far from shore.

Either way, it just makes me sick to my stomach when I think about the horror that they must have had to deal with and a buddy dies. Those two were so lucky in so many ways to even get rescued ,according to their dire circumstances !

Sad. Where they were would be important to know. Best I can guess is they were outside the cockpit trying to set a main sail 2nd or 3rd reef.

They were indeed lucky that the merchant ship was within range. Virginia Beach is right by the entrance to the Chesapeake Bay, so there are likely to be more vessels going into and leaving the bay than many other areas. Still lucky though.

From PeaceLoveMusic's recent posts, looks like he is currently hauled out and working on his "In Tune", so perhaps wasn't our CF member...

So I am confused- did the boat sink causing all to go overboard, or did all 3 crew members go overboard and the boat is still floating around?

The article wasn't clear about that. It is possible that there were more than three crew and that "only" three went overboard.
