Anyone in Sydney Australia with a Catamaran

G'day,

Any catamaran owners in Sydney Australia willing to invite my wife and I for a sail. I would appreciate any assistance as I am trying to convince her that we should buy a catamaran. She has seen mono hulls in the harbour swaying too much for her liking. I have said that a cat is not as bad but now I have to prove this.

The wife has never been on a sail boat and is keen to try a catamaran.

Thanking you in advance.

Sydney harbour isn't the ideal place to prove this. Ferry wakes and the monster wakes from the hideous arse dragging gin palaces can make any boat a bit uncomfortable at times. (Unless it's huge)

We could have taken you out, but we've just left Sydney a few days ago.

Try Multihull Central in Roselle, they have a multihull Marina and run Twilight social racing each week and usually space on an owners boat.

Truely a perfect description.

I wouldn’t take her on a race in Sydney Harbour (even a twilight) for her first sail. Too much risk of yelling or argy-bargy which would put her right off.

Totally agree Sydney harbour is not the best place to take your wife if you want her to enjoy sailing. Much better to try the Pittwater area. Lots of lovely spots up in the Cowan to make it a very pleasurable experience. Try contacting the Marinas and yacht clubs up that way and maybe they will help out. They usually have a notice bard you could post an add on. There is also a catamaran dealer up that way as well who I'm sure would be delighted to take you out for a trial run just leave your wallet at home!

There is a twilight series on Monday nights at Pittwater that has a few very cruising orientated cats that sail. Contact them through this page. Take along some wine and nibblies and offer to happily wind some winches.

I don't know your wife but if she's that skeptical of the rolling just by looking at boats from the shore a few twilight sails might not turn her around to say "oh, yes, let's spend a few hundred grand on a cat".

Re: Anyone in Sydney Australia with a Catamaran

Hi, were in the Port hacking just south of Sydney, a beautiful protected waterway but don't tell anyone. My wife and I took a year off last year, bought a cat and sailed to Cairns and back. Adventure of a lifetime!! If you'd like to come out on the weekend give us a call. 0418 202 406.
Kind regards,
Jason and Sally.
