From Virgin Islan to Florida

Hi Sailors!
Thanks again for all the useful information you gave me on my previous thread
(http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...ed-177833.html)

Now we are in Caribbean (French Antille), crossed the Atlantic in 18 days and we are sailing up...
Due to our "important draft", 2,8 meter.. 9,5 feet.. we are looking the best routage for sailing up from Virgin Island to Florida.

We do not know if it is possible to enter (and how is saili into) in the "tongue of the ocean) and stay windward to Andros Island or sail between Cuba and the great Bahama Bank...

Sorry if I will not reply quickly, but the internet connection is not available everywhere.

:-)

Re: From Virgin Islan to Florida

We did this two years ago leaving St Martin and and just stayed "outside" until we past the N. end of Eleuthera. There we "hung a left" to Nassau to drop off crew then sailed N-NW in the deep waters of NW providence channel and then "hung another left past" the Berry Islands (W-NW to West Palm Beach. No muss no fuss.

The only thing we had to worry about was dodging the 23 ocean liners bringing passengers back to Ft Lauderdale.

Re: From Virgin Islan to Florida

I've gone up the Old Bahama Channel twice, nonstop from Puerto Rico. With a US boat and crew, I did not have to check in again in Florida. One trip the winds were light and it took 8 days, the next time I had the trades and it took 5 days. No draft issues at all--its a shipping route.
