Naming connection ports in setting?

Hi.

Is there a way to give sensible names to the connection ports in settings?
I have for example two GPS which I keep as backup. They communicate with the OpenCpn PC via Bluetooth.
Instead of just seeing a port number like Com40 it would be great to give as well a name like Garmin GPS or NMEA multiplex or the like?

Maybe it could be implemented in the future if not possible right now?

Thanks,

Franziska

Re: Naming connection ports in setting?

Franziska,

You'd like an optional Name field for identification of the connection.
Would you like it at the beginning after enable or just at the end as a comment?

Perhaps it would be best to enter this request into tracker as a "Feature Requests" "Options>Connections Name/Comment Field" and to vote for it too.

Thanks for the swift reply!
At the beginning would be nice! If it's easier to implement, at the back would be fine too.

If you use a smart operating system and not a stupid one your wish has become true already. In this example are 3 Bluetooth devices: 1x Qstarz GPS, 1x HBTSol GPS and 1x RO4800 sending AIS data.

If you use Openplotter and a raspberry PI to handle all connections for you and output the NMEA data to opencpn, it will look like the attached photo.
