Cleaning non skid floors in the head

Not exactly sure what forum to post in, so mods, move if need be....

The floors of the head and the shower are made of non skid decking. Same as on the deck of the boat. I am looking for advice on how to clean them, especially getting hair up. Sponges and scrunges just fall apart, making more of a mess. Other brushes just wipe dirt and hair around, and don't pick them up.

I usually spray some cleaner, say ammonia or bleach based spray, then try to clean by scrubbing, then use the shower head to rinse. Of course walking on the floor then leaves dirty footprints all over again.

Looking for solutions that others might have found...Thanks.

I have used a pressure washer with great results, maybe not practical in remote areas but works many a treat when in home waters.

We simply use the synthetic chamois cloths... hang on while I date myself - like the old ShamWow! Actually, our process is to use a squeegee after our shower to get the bulk of the water down the drain and then we go back over it with the chamois to dry and pick up any stray hairs, etc. - works!

If you let the floor dry you can probably pick up hair with a damp cloth.

In my opinion, the best cleaner for non-skid fiberglass surfaces it the cleaner Star Brite makes for that purpose. Somehow, it lifts the dirt out of the recesses where it can be rinse away.

Re: Cleaning non skid floors in the head

A stiff bristle scrub brush is the right weapon...

...But your chemistry may be wrong. If the dirt is soap scum or bonded by soap scum and conditioner, you need a weak acid cleaner like Shower Power. Let it sit, as directed, scrub with the brush, and it will come clean like new. No need for a scrubby, through as wash cloth may help pick up the hair (better than a scrubby). Other weak acid cleaners (CLR, black stripe removers, even vinegar) should also help, but Shower Power is my favorite for this, with an effective blend of phosphoric acid and surfactants.

Ammonia and bleach are both alkaline (opposite of acid) and won't work.

Cleaning is all about matching the cleaner to the soil.

Soft scrub with bleach.
Bar keepers friend if there is rust.
A good scrub brush. Elbow grease!

At sea, no chemicals PLEASE. Use simply vinegar diluted in water. So so efficient and environmentally friendly. All purpose cleaner for interior, deck and hull. Also a great salt water remover etc.
