GPS memory battery

I have a Icom GPS 270-ML which works perfectly well but needs a new battery for memory I tried to contact ICOM who are just not interested in any form of help as it is an old model. (Bit like me).

I have replaced memory battery on another gps where the battery was located in the aerial housing, works well is this the site for the Icom as well? Anyone know how to access that bettery or tell me where it is?

I also have a Furuno GPS 32 which at the moment is good but I notice that I would have the same access problem if I ever needed to replace the memory battery on that.

Any ideas please.

Most of the external "antennas" have active circuitry on them, and they use a backup battery to keep the almanac and ephemeris data so the "first boot" time is kept short. Usually there is a similar internal battery in a GPS to keep waypoints and other data, so depending on what they have done, you can expect one or both to exist.
If you have a "waterproof" unit that can be more problematic, as some are gasketed but other are glued or welded shut. Which aids waterproofing but makes service into a nightmare requiring a new case, or cracks and glue.
So it may be very different from one unit to the next. The actual battery, as you've found, can be the least of it all.
