Re: Sailing no from Fiji to Hawaii
It would help if you gave more info (lots more!). For instance, what sort of boat, how much range under power (or is it actually a power boat), what time of year, is there time pressure from external scheduling... and so on?
Without that info, no useful answer is gonna appear.

Re: Sailing no from Fiji to Hawaii
I haven't done it but the people who bought my Westsail 32 did. They loaded the boat down with fuel, sailed NE till they hit the doldrums then powered East with a following current till they could sail on a reach to Hawaii, somewhere around Tahiti's longitude. Don't know the details but it worked for them giving them the quickest way to get back to Kona but a lot of engine time. The prevailing winds aren't in your favor so sailing is usually a long trip as you have to go way out of your way to stay in favorable wind conditions.

Re: Sailing no from Fiji to Hawaii
It’s a motor sailer and has the capacity to motor for 13 days with out using any sail I would prefer to motor sail as much as possible to extend my range but need to stop at least 1 before heading east to Hawaii

Re: Sailing no from Fiji to Hawaii
I live in Fiji and have done the trip over 20 times.Best to check out from levuka, the first capital.head hard on the wind to Apia Western Samoa.restock and head thru the line Islands fanning or Washington is a stop if you absolutely need more food and water and sometimes fuel.If you can sailing hard on and East of them a few hundred miles most.then straight to Hilo or if you can't fetch it Honolulu. You may have to motor a few days through the doldrums but can sail most of the way.

Re: Sailing no from Fiji to Hawaii
Yes, have done that exact trip. More than once. Our home port is Kauai.
If/when you buy the boat, you may contact us for route/time frame info. But only after you buy the boat, not during your dreaming stage.
Cheers!

Re: Sailing no from Fiji to Hawaii
I brought a Tayana 37 back to San Francisco from Tonga and a Kelly-Peterson up from New Zealand (via Tonga). Navigation from Tonga both times was easy. Just sheet everything in tightly, point as high as you can while still making good boat speed and hope you hit the big island without having to tack. We opted to leave Tonga in early September both times, arriving in HI about the first of October, staying a just few days to resuppply then on to California, arriving in late October. This avoids both the North and South Pacific cyclone seasons as well as those nasty Northern Pacific winter storms.

Re: Sailing no from Fiji to Hawaii
We are a U.S. flagged cat currently in New Zealand & planning on Fiji in April/May then Hawaii sometime after. We would love further details from your experiences: route, timeframe, dates, etc.
It would also be great to communicate directly. Let me know if that is possible for you & we'll figure out how to connect.
