Just finished splicing up a new 30ft 3/4 inch nylon snubber just in case.
Will probably set ourselves up in "Cowards Corner" Friday afternoon.

Re: Cyclone Owen - Queensland 12-12-18

Funny, a few days ago the BOM were saying Owen would barely make cat 1, would hit Cape York and fizzle out.

After reading that we texted friends who were up around Townsville and said "Take cover!"

Couple of days later its looking at cat 5, then heading down the coast.

Our friends are taking cover...

I'll tell you after I have secured our spot.
Don't want it filling up before we get there as for vessels our size there aren't that many deep hidey holes.

Thanks, let me know if you ever have the boat in the Pacific Northwest.

Lighten up champ.

Its several days from where I am and may not even get here.
If I tip everyone off to this spot and it fills up with small boats where do I go then?

Small boats can squeeze in small holes everywhere in this waterway but holes suitable for 60fters constrained by draft and swinging room are few and far between

Re: Cyclone Owen - Queensland 12-12-18

Todays models, both gfs and euro, shows Owen pretty much dissipating around Rockhampton, 380 nm north of the Gold Coast - where I'm anchored now. Last nivhts models had it going down through Brisbane Gold Coast area.
Odds of the models being correct?

Re: Cyclone Owen - Queensland 12-12-18

Based on our experience, it is instructive to write down the forecast positions by the days on a paper chart (in pencil), and then compare with reality as it occurs. I'm amazed they get the tracks as close as they do, actually. Starting to dissipate around Bundy makes some sense, and then sliding down the coast as a "rain depression." A not uncommon pattern.
