Dudley Dix 43 HD

Good Morning

Help please - someone added this boat to an earlier post and it looks wonderful enough for me to go and inspect - although it may be more boat than I know how to manage and a decent step up from 32 ft

http://www.boats.com/sailing-boats/2...-43-hd-7125139

But I know very little about this particular design or the builder - any one have any experience with either

all and any feedback appreciated
Regards Wayne

Re: Dudley Dix 43 HD

Dudley Dix is a South African Naval Architect with extensive experience in homebuilt plywood designs. Many of them incorporate a rounded-chine “constant camber” system that avoids the hard chines that increase wetted surface and make many plywood boats pound in a seaway. He has a reputation for fast boats that hold up and perform well in conditions that prevail off the Cape of Good Hope. (Nasty is putting it mildly.) IIRC he now works out of Annapolis, Maryland, USA. WoodenBoat has had several articles both about him and about his designs and building method. One was about a 38’ boat built in a driveway in landlocked Colorado and trucked to the coast to launch when finished. Another was about one he built himself in his back yard. His designs would definitely be worth checking out. Builders who seek out his plans are likely to be keen to put them together properly, but of course, every boat is different.

+1 on that -- I lusted after his Didi 34 some years back, he was kind enough to answer -- quite quickly... unfortunately, the calendar began to overrun me...

Are we then to assume that builders who seek out other designs slap them together carelessly and with abandon?? LOL!!!!
