Sail Drive Anti fouling - glue the gasket

hi there,

This year I had a terrible grow on my sail drive and prop. Location North Aegean in Thessaloniki. See picture, after 5 months in the water. The hull, GRP, was very clean, and did not need any cleaning when it came out of the water.
( See picture as the vessel came out of the water). Who can advise me which AF (European) to use next year to put onto the sail drive.

The gasket is every year loose, since 2 years on one half loose. I glued it on, after sanding - what i did probably not good enough the first time with an advised glue for rubber on the GRP hull. Any advise welcome.

Re gluing the fairing skirt, there is a whole thread on that here somewhere with various glues to use and other solutions. Do a Google custom search or use Google's "site: " directive in your search...as the standard search isnt so good.

I put a new gasket around my sail drive and was advised by a Volvo Penta marine expert that he has found that first glue the gasket on. We used I think 4200, then 4 small screws on the long side and three front and back. Be sure you use small short screws. Pre drill and be careful by taping the drill bite at the depth that you only want to go.

Re: Sail Drive Anti fouling - glue the gasket

Just put new "boots" on our boat. The Volvo guys recommended 3m weatherstripping contact cement. That didn't work, no adhesion to the rubber. The next attempt was hyperlon 2 part contact cement for patching a dinghy. That seemed to work great. You need to work really hard to smoothing out all the bubbles when adhering the two surfaces. I also put a bead of 5200 around the edge of the boot

I also put a thin piece of plastic one inch wide, length is equal to the width and length, between the boot and screws so that it was evenly held all around the boot.
