Advice, panama via Puerto Montt? from Tahiti

Seeking advice on a route from Tahiti to Puerto Montt.
Intention is to get to the Panama canal, eventually, the wrong way. The easier Hawaii / west coast route seems less interesting to me.
Was looking to head south to Rapa then further south above 30 degrees, till I get some westerlies... good idea? Or very rough up there?

Boat is a 50 ft cruising trimaran, modestly rigged but sails well to windward, can average 8/10kts or so.
