Outremer 55 Light - Tahiti to San Francisco - Video

Hi folks,

About a year ago me and a bunch of great friends left for the South Pacific in order to sail an Outremer 55 light to San Francisco. The video below is a 5 minute summary of all the tid bits from everyones iPhones, GoPros, DSLRs, etc. I thought it might be interesting for those who are looking at Outremers.

All in all, it was 5 weeks and 5614 nautical miles including squalls, calms, ripped main sail, fishing, rough seas, debauchery, sunsets, etc. Feel free to reach out if you are thinking about getting an Outremer (or buying a boat in French Polynesia which was a process of its own). I'll do my best to answer.

Very cool. I remember looking at this boat on YachtWorld. Are you keeping the boat in San Francisco Bay? If so, it's the 2nd Outremer 55L we have here.

Yup, she in San Francisco Bay in Alameda. I was actually working on her in the slip one day, looked up and the owners of the other 55L had pulled theirs up right behind me!

I'm so surprised we made it back to shore with the drone. Against all odds for sure.

It the other 55L is Lil Bear, we know it. In fact the owners graciously gave us a sail on it when were shopping for a boat. That sail, arranged by a local broker, gave us the confidence to buy a large cat. We got it up to 15.6 with my wife driving. Great fun. Outremers are great sailing boats.

At the moment in NZ doing some work on Zephyr before heading up to the Marshall Islands and Fiji this season.

Both good options between the light and the standard. I think a lot of it would come down the the condition of the vessel and age of the equipment if I were buying a danson outremer. Feel free to find me on Instagram or Facebook “voyage of the zephyr” if you want to chat
