I'm new to this forum and new to sailing. I've never owned a
boat, or even wanted one. After I had open heart surgery 13 days before my 60th birthday last Feb., I began feeling drawn to the
water. I thought it strange, but went with it. I did a little
research and found myself at Bay Area
Sailing School in
Kemah TX, I had never heard of
Kemah. The folks there were very nice and welcoming. I took the basic keelboat course and loved it! This was the first time my foot had stepped on a sailboat! Before I left, I signed up for a combo course of Coastal Cruising and
Bareboat Chartering. I haven't taken that yet, but am looking forward to spending 3 days on a
boat. In the mean time, I was looking at boats online, trying to learn about the different kinds of sailboats(swing
keel,
centerboard, fixed
keel ect.) I ran across a 16' Paceship Peregrine, and since I live only 4 miles from Lake Somerville, I bought it thinking I would enjoy playing in the lake and would get there more often than making the 2 hr. trip to the coast. I still like the idea of coastal sailing better, but this should get me started.
Thanks for having me.
