Impeller blown but what about seals?

My genset ran for at least 10 minutes with a blown impeller before shutting down for overheating. The fresh water coolant system would have kept it cool that long.

The impeller is obviously shredded but wat about the impeller shaft seal? Would it also require water lubrification and be dead or is it still good and can I get away with just replacing the impeller of which I have a spare? Thanks.

The genset is a 5kW Northern Lights, basically a Volvo.

Answering my own post for other’s future reference: running the salt water pump dry for about 10 minutes didn’t damage the waterproof seal around the shaft and I only had to replace the impeller.

Northern Lights are Volvo’s? I thought they were Luggers?

Well, at least for my model, all the spares are Volvo.

They are Lugger engines.
