vat refunds for yacht in transit?

Hi all,
We are heading back to Muscade in Messilonghi in couple of weeks but need to get hold of a larger anchor, and probably replace our tired tender. The tender will be a substantial outlay, and would appreciate being able to recoup the vat if possible.
Has anyone had any luck in either Greece, Albania, or Montenegro with this.
Australian registered, and we will be sailing these 3 countries this summer.
Thanks in advance.

When you leave the EU and head to Montenegro, it's very important to take care of the VAT export paperwork as you exit the EU provided by the seller, the customs office and the port authority. Then when you have proof of being in Montenegro from the Montenegro customs office, you then forward it back to the company where you purchased the product. The seller will then process the VAT refund.

There are time limits.

I don't think that every reseller is registered to make VAT refunds. I think that there are minimum prices too.

VAT refunds are handled differently in various EU countries and not identical in the various EU countries.
But just check with the seller, after you have negotiated the right sales price and than aks him if he will refund you, showing and handing over to him the stamped export documents of the country of purchase. The country of purchase has nothing to do with the importing country. In that case even the importing country might charge you with VAT , importing duty and cost of documents. And gone is your advantage.

Good luck

VAT is a EU wide tax that funds Brussels so you should keep all your receipts then at your last EU port before leaving (preferably a large one) head for the Customs office with your requisite receipts and obtain a refund form from them, fill it in along with your bank details, home address etc and then hand it in.. if possible get copies of everything with a photocopier.
Usually the refund is in your account in 3 months.
That's how it works for boats in the Canaries.. have helped a couple of Aussies with this process in the past.. should be the same in Italy if that's your last EU country.
