Catamaran Sinking

Heard this news yesterday and i'm taking it as fact,but cant find any news of it in the media. Wondering if anybody else can shed some light on it.
Apparently a Nautitec ? 40 sank in the Indian Ocean on its way to Phuket to be put into charter. Some things about the story dont quite add up to me, it is claimed the escape hatch was dislodged allowing water to flood the vessel. Even if this was the case i doubt it would have sank proper,but rather swamped and still floating , no word on rescue or fate of crew at this stage.

Cannot believe it. Read so many times on this forum that catamarans may flip over, but never sink: only monohulls sink.

Just received an update on this incident, the vessels name is Cattarina,it sunk? in 3000m of water,the skipper and 1 crew escaped the boat by dinghy and where picked up by a passing vessel. Seems very strange how a modern cat litterally 'sinks' to the bottom just from ingress of water,most cats these days are cored and have water tight compartments which should prevent that from happening.

Can you point me to the thread where you read this?

Mark, I would swear that I've seen you involved in threads where almost all catamaran owners have stated that many catamarans do sink. Don't you remember this? If not, let me tell you that I'm sure mine can sink. Now, you don't have to post that nonsense in the future.

I would guess that more cats are sunk by broken escape hatches then sailors are saved by exiting them. But, It's probably better to have them then not.

I think the "statements" were that the bottom was littered with monos, but no catamarans.

Never seen that "statement". Do you mine pointing me to it? Every time a cat sinks you don't have to join the discussion with no intent except to throw this crap, which obviously isn't true, out. Why??

That does make it sound like it is a common occurrence for cats to sink, which I am sure you did not intend to do.

It was a Nautitech 40 2006 model , the name has 2 t's in it.

Dude, chill out. I was correcting some one else's statement, to what the statements actually were. The sentiment was repeated several times in the "at the risk if starting WWIII" thread. Don't ask me to seek out which post, there are over 450 posts in that thread about mono vs multi. But feel free to look yourself.

I don't need to "chill out". In those 450 post's did someone, who owns a catamaran, point out that that statement wasn't true? Do you believe it to be true? Isn't anyone sick and tired of this back and forth? I just don't understand the desire of certain members to bring up the "Someone said once that catamarans don't sink and now here's one that did!" line.

They sink, people still like and buy them, move on.
