Your top 3 favorite items for living aboard
Hello Cruisers,
I've never lived aboard, but am in the early stages of planning some long term cruising. I'm aware of the exhaustive amount of equipment some people have on board, but I appreciate the advantages of minimizing complexity and only adding the highest value items to the equipment list.
So, to all the cruisers out there, what are your 3 favorite pieces of equipment onboard?
Said differently: what items add the most value to your cruising experience?
Which things would you be most unwilling to give up?

Re: Your top 3 favorite items for living aboard
I gave this question some consideration and I can't help but answer two of the three requirements in the "negative".
1. My first essential in living aboard is NOT to have stuff in a dock box, shore storage lockers, vans or trunks. You do not need the burden of all that stuff.
2. My second essential is NOT to have items aboard that need to be tended, moved or altered in order to leave the dock. There should be little or nothing that needs to be done in order to spontaneous cruise other than tend the power cords and dock lines.
3. My first mate.
Of course additional required items are obvious, sails, lights, anchor, VHF, PFDs, navigation tools, line, fire extinguishers, food, water,- I certainly need more that my three listed above!

Good list, Hudson, but sheesh, I put having a first mate that loves the life as much as I do as the number one requirement, not the third!

I'd agree with this, and for the third I'd say a good drill/set of spanners

Re: Your top 3 favorite items for living aboard
I'm with Hutson, on nothing in the dock box and nothing preventing the boat from moving in 5 minutes.
1. A kindle unlimited subscription, but then I read 20-30 books a month so a pretty good deal. Of course I use a old rooted and with optional system (Cyanogenmod 10.2) tablet for reading, backup (or primary chart plotter) etc.
2. LED lights
3. Solar power

Re: Your top 3 favorite items for living aboard
1. What Huston Force said
2. A Kindle, but look into "bookbub" they send you a list of very reduced price and free books everyday so you can build a big library for when you are away from wifi
3a. A super comfy mattress
3b. A composting head (less maintenance, less spares)

SEE-OO are Swiss made glasses in titanium frame. I got optical polarized lenses with the desired sun filtering, a must under sail.... (miopic)
