Patagonian Cruisers' Net

For about the last 15 years or so Wolfgang Kirsten ran the Patagonian Cruisers' Net from his QTH near Villarica in the 'lakes district' of Chile.
Every morning at 0900 local time except for a few weeks a year when he went on hols etc. and handed the reigns to someone else he would be there..... working yachts from far out in the Pacific to the Falklands , Uruguay and beyond.

Last year he sold up and returned to Germany...

Now 8164 USB is deathly quiet ... very sad.

It would appear that without someone in charge people just can't be motivated to run it themselves on a rotating basis as are many cruising nets.

Its not as if the boats aren't still out there... 6 that I know of are southbound this autumn and I am aware of a northbound yacht every week or so..

I open the net every morning but thus far... nada

It would be rather nice if , somewhere down the track, people could fire it up again.

Ping,
Puerto Eden,
Bound south........

Re: Patagonian Cruisers' Net

You've probably already thought of this El Ping, but when you're in port, word of mouth invites will/may help rejuvenate the net.... Also, "securite"s on the VHF around 0800 might get some takers.

Good luck with it. When one is really a bit out of touch, the radio can offer a lot of camaraderie, humor, and sometimes, solace.

Thanks Ann,
The attitude seems to be 'Wolfgang's gone, thats it, no net...'

Maybe in the spring when people emerge from their cocoons I can breath some life into it... in the mean time.......

Cheers
Ping
