Brisbane to Cairns - Experienced Sailor
I have limited sailing experience and would be grateful if there is anyone available in the next few weeks (November to December 2018) to help me sail a 11m catamaran from Brisbane to Cairns.
All food will be paid for and the return flights.

Then he'll be faced with heading into stiff south easterly trade winds for most of the trip if he leaves post cyclone season. There's plenty of safe havens along the route (he's already in cyclone territory, after all). And most cyclones of recent times approaching the coast have been late season.
Be that as it may, you should have left one or two months ago, but go sooner rather than later if you go now.

But... SE winds are favorable for the trip northward (Brisbane to Cairns) are they not? That time is when most folks make the northward migration.
And FWIW, the idea of a "safe haven' in a Cat 5 cyclone is kinda vague. I find being in Tasmania to be about the right degree of separation! But, if one intends to keep a boat in Cairns, such cowardice isn't gonna be acceptable, and becoming used to the idea of surviving monster storms is needed!

You're right. I read it as Cairns to Brisbane. My bad! As the inverse, I guess leaving it in Brisbane would make some sense.
Having said that, I delivered my boat to Mackay in January, less than one week ahead of TS Dylan at the time. It's a fact of life living in cyclone country that you you don't necessarily have the luxury of keeping your boat out of the zone. You just pay your money and take your chances. And have a contingency plan, too.

Stiff south easterly would be nice but not very likely. Generally lighter NorEasters/Easterly

My logic was all screwed up because I was thinking the OP wanted out of the cyclone area, but it's since been brought to my attention that he is delivering a boat home. Which kind of reverses the scenario.
The wind rose for Cairns in May, on average, therefore looks pretty good....

Yep, that's typical for the entire coast from Bne up at that time of the year.
That's why everyone heads north from "points south" at that time of year (that and the temperatures further south ).

We shouldn’t see a cyclone for another month or more but we are experiencing NW/NE winds. Anything from the south would be welcome!

Re: Brisbane to Cairns - Experienced Sailor
I have had some private message responses - I think they are all coming to grips with my total naivety when it comes to sailing

Adel
We all started as novices.
You can read about Sailing and the problems of putting to sea - until you are out there and the wind is blowing strong and waves are high, then you experience the joys of boating.
I am in Melbourne - my phone is 0419 992 939 if you wish to talk
