A mad Run from Lake St. Clair to Kewenaw Bay in Lake Superior.

I have sailed a trailor sailor (26 foot Balboa) for about 8 years. I just bought an Islander 36 and need to sail it from Lake St. Clair up Huron through the locks and home to Baraga Michigan on Superior. Anyone have any idea how long this will take between motoring and sailing 24 hours a day (have a crew of 5.)

You are going up current so just a rough estimate here since we did it in the opposite direction.
1. A good day (24 hrs) from St. Clair to Lake Huron
2. 24 to 36 hrs to St. Marys river.
3. 24 hrs through St. Marys and the Soo locks...use the Canadian lock. Don't need a passport unless you get out of the boat.
4. 24 to 36 hrs to Baraga.

These are optimistic forecasts, that is using best case weather and favorable winds. In general, wind may be against you on Superior.
Good luck on the voyage. Sounds like a great time.
Cheers from Houghton.

It looks like it's around 530miles.

Assuming a 5mph average, you are looking at around 106hrs. Add in another 6-10hrs for the river currents and the locks...let's call it 115hrs of running time.

Of course, I wouldn't count on getting 5days of continuous good weather. I'd plan on at least 2 weeks with the option to hole up for another week if weather turns.

Also that assumes the boat works flawlessly.

Ya, I'd agree a couple weeks at a leisurely pace. Probably about 1 week if your doing over nights.
