Florida question - Can anyone recommend a Standing Rigging technician?
Hi all - looking for some West Palm Beach to Miami rigging recommendations. For a 43' Beneteau monohull sailboat.
Just purchasing a boat that needs replacement work done on standing rigging. There has been some work done to mounts and plates according to current owner, and I'm looking for an honest and reliable tech who can tell bad DIY work from good, and who could finish off where it got too.
Waiting on some numbers from "Dam Rigging Inc" - anyone had theirs done by this company?
Struggling to get a response from other companies contacted.
Heard that there's a busy market for mega yachts down here and that 43ft is deemed small time

"Standing rigging technician"??? Would that be similar to a rigger?
Newspeak is so confusing...
Jim
(Just pulling your leg a little, mate! I could help you in Oz, but not in Florida... so good luck with your "techo").

Just a bit north in Stuart I highly recommend Mack Sails (yes they do all sorts of rigging and are experts at it) . Mack Sails – Sailmakers
For years I used Sailing Services in Miami. They probably do a good job but I had a dispute with them and they left me holding the bag so no longer my favorite shop.

I use SparmanUSA ( www.sparmanusa.com for contact). Julian was very good for me. Broke my project into phases to work with my budget/timeline. Responsive and keeps his appointments.

I tried to use Sparman for some of my rigging but he was booked weeks in advance. Also very difficult to reach (only answered emails occasionally) but when I did get through to him he did show up when he said he would.
He might travel but he is based in north Florida.

Standing rigging is the one thing that needs to be done right. Sounds like yesterday a big charter cat went out of Adderly cut in the Bahamas and shortly came back in without a mast. Was blowing 30 kts, with 12 ft'ers.

Contact Pete Ackerman in Fort Lauderdale at 954.937.1706. He has done boths of my monohulls, Cal 2-27 and Kaufman 47 standing rigging. He does good work at a fair price.

Colin Mack was one of my students in Stuart FL. and I being a sailor started using their services when he told me about it. I can't even remember how many years ago that was, but I have used them ever since, and have never had less than class A+ work! I would reccomend them to anyone!

Another vote for Mack Sails. They replaced all the standing rigging on our Brewer 12.8. Very good work at a fair price.

Nance and Underwood in Ft.Lauderdale, have done rigging inspections and have made a new main for me back in the day. Ask for Roger and tell him PN, now in Tampa, said to call..............

Re: Florida question - Can anyone recommend a Standing Rigging technician?
Threes guys in West Palm (Rivera Beach) are spot on...saved our butt and got us going same day. West had charged $4.59/ft for SS 1/4" (of course). Florida Hydraulic charged $1.16/ft.
They had all the Sta-loc and Norseman sizes too.
Phil took care of me but the two guys slicing line looked like they could do it blindfolded.
Very impressed!
