LOOKING FOR A LEOPARD 40 or LAGOON 38

We have been getting ready for retirement for approximately 12 years. The retirement became effective around the first week of October, we sold our home and left Ohio (GO BUCKS!) on Oct 1st. We've settled in to our condo and while we were doing all of the that, the Leopard 40 that we planned to buy was sold. So now we are back to looking for a full time live aboard catamaran. Our budget is $200K to $250K. We prefer galley up, separate showers, 3 cabins and 2 heads.
We are hoping to post here to catch a cat before it is posted any where else. Anyone anticipating selling their beloved cat to us?

Having sailed on them all I would be really hot to look at this boat instead for about a dozen reasons. And it meets your criteria

Look at the exposed rudders and outdrives instead of shaft drives along with a smaller cockpit. No thanks.

To each his own, but the Manta is a WAY better built boat than the other two.

Exposed rudders and drives and smaller cockpit ??????

You clearly have never been on a Manta 42.

Re: LOOKING FOR A LEOPARD 40 or LAGOON 38

The arch incorporates a 13 ft wide seat that has an incredible view, very comfy and 1 to 2 levels of storage underneath. Plus cockpit is a bit deeper and less exposed which is preferred offshore (unless you like catanas) I agree I like straight shafts better but lots of mantas have circumnavigated without issue. The spade rudders are very robust and if a reef is involved it wont matter which type you have. Better resale value, quality of build, rig, are just a few reasons.

Since everyone else is commenting, the Leopard 40 sails much better if that is a factor. But that seems like a great deal on a Manta.

FActor: let me know if you want to me to sail her over for you.

I dont know about much, a tiny bit faster but not a huge difference and if loaded for cruising probably neglible. I understand due to its lighter design the leopard 40 is not supposed to sit on her keels or damage can occur. That would be a big factor. The L 40 isn't as robust as the older 38 or the 42.
Totally agree seems like a great price. I'd be interested I just don't want to go back to work for 2 more years.
