Plank vessel repair Philippines and Kudat

Well that didn't take long. I sold my big trimaran and she will now carry 60 tourists per day trip in Langkawi.

New vessel is same same but different. Specifically she is a plank hull with seams that are opening up. She is still dry inside but I know this is something that should not be ignored.

I am searching for cruisers who have hauled out in Kudat and Philippines.

Have you seen laborers with experience removing old seaming materials and pounding in fresh cotton and seaming compound. Which haul out areas would you suggest? I saw fishing vessels in Phuket being repaired in this manner.

There seems to be about six traditional seaming compounds as well as InterLux Seaming Compound. Ideas?

Again this is a plank vessel not plywood or fiberglass over wood.

I am not seriously consider converting to glass over the planks since I question local ability to do anything but a hack job.

With ours it has oakum in the joints on any spot caulking we have done
https://shop.classic-boat-supplies.c...stockholm-tar/

and over the decades various compounds over the top.
Most of it seems to be Jotun jotafair but we have also simply smeared thickened epoxy hi build primer like jotun jotamastic into them.
There are also seams underwater that have sikaflex over the top.

Glassing over the top is the last thing you want to do so all the heavy timber guys tell me.
They reckon you save that for the boats final gasp of life.
