Best fuel stop between Anquilla to Martinique

Hello,

Looking to take on 500+ gallons. Price is important but, quality is also. Not woth saving a couple dollars on fuel to spend more on fuel filters. I have emailed a few marinas, and the responses have been not what I had hoped.

FYI, for anybody that reads this, Ponce Yacht club in Puerto Rico had the best price (2.40/gal w/ bulk discount) and quality (at least in spring of 2017).

Saint Martin French side at the fuel station in the Bridge entrance channel.. to starboard as you enter from the sea.

St Maartin. Bobby’s Philipsburg. Was the best 2 years ago when I filled up. It’s not far off your route. Note that it will probably have been damaged badly or even destroyed in Irma. Check first.

I agree with boatman that the fuel dock on the French side is where to fuel up. Euro 1to 1 with dollars there and no issues with fuel quality. No matter which side you choose, SXM is where to fuel up before heading out.

I can tell you first hand that the fuel docks in Fort De France and La Marin in Martinique sell a lot of fuel and were not touched by the hurricanes.

I wonder if the fuel dock in the bridge channel at Marigot SXM is even open, and if open, were the fuel tanks flooded ?

I contacted La Marin, they responded with $1.21/ltr, so about $5.70usd/gal.

Too much for me. I’d go back to PR for the $2000usd I’d save. I had the same thought on St. Martin, depends if the tanks are surface or buried. I’d probably buy a gallon or two and test before fill up, or use baja filter.

Saving $2000 on 500Gal of fuel @$5.70/Gal

$5.70 * 500 = $2850

Save $2000: $2850-$2000=$850/500USGal = $1.70/Gal = $.44/L

You will not find anything near that price in the area you are looking.

In Grenada/Cariacou you can get Duty free diesel after you check out @ less than $1/L

Units are important too: I think $1.21/L = $4.59/USGal = $5.50/Imperial Gal

I'm not sure what you mean about the Baja Filter, just to test would be OK, but I don't think a busy fuel dock is going to let you fill 500Gal through one of those.

That's quite a savings right there, at todays rate of 1 USD = 0.82 euros, if your normal currency is USD.

I carry 750 gal. The $2000 figure was for more than the 500. Figure I be lower on fuel if I run the extra milage from Martinique.

I like the 1us for 1 euro exchange as well! That is a substantial discount. Wonder if you can specify if paying with a card.

Jolly Harbour Antiqua fuel dock is ~$3.15usd/gallon if over 250 gallons. Still waiting for info for St. Martin (actual price and availability)

Note that in Antigua they will charge you something approaching $100 for duty free processing fees and you can only get it for this price once cleared out, so needs scheduling carefully with customs and fuel dock opening times.

Perhaps off your route, but Crown Bay Marina in St Thomas had diesel at $3.97/gallon last week having just gone up by $0.05. I just took on 80 gallons so no talk of a volume discount.
